Why We Deserve Another Friday the 13th with Kane Hodder

Friday the 13th is one of the major horror movie franchises we have out there. And despite the unnecessarily harsh critics of the earlier movies, they helped create another empire for us horror movie feinds to love and enjoy. Like the Halloween movies, Friday the 13th also had a swarm of actors to portray the infamous Jason Voorhees. And also like Halloween, certain actors portrayed Jason the best.

Kane Hodder was the actor who played the best version of Jason Voorhees. And I think that's mostly because the aggression and everything he brought to the character meshed well with the character's evolution by the time he stepped in to play the role.

Jason started off as this mysterious yet regular enigmatic person who was thought to have "come back from the dead" to avenge the death of his mother. But from that point up until the fifth sequel, Jason was simply that, a regular man with regular man weaknesses. By the fifth sequel, he'd evolved from a regular man to the undead, but also with superhuman strength and little to no weaknesses.

C.J. Graham was a good choice to portray him in this sequel because by this point Jason needed an actor who could show the evolution in a way he didn't need before. Graham gave that to us. But when Kane Hodder stepped into the role, Jason had been dead and resurrected yet again, which means he had another reason to be pissed off. Kane had the adrenaline. He had the aggression. And he stepped in to give us a kind of Jason we never had before.

But it ended up being more than that. Kane gave us *the* Jason that became the most iconic. That is why he returned to play him three more times, the only actor to play him more than once consecutively.

Unfortunately a different actor was cast to play the character in Freddy vs. Jason, and to this day I still believe that was a mistake. I guess the filmmakers wanted a much taller Jason, but also slower and not as aggressive as what Kane Hodder does. I think it still could have worked without recasting. The actor in Freddy vs. Jason just seemed too. . .I don't know. . .dumb. Not the actor, but the Jason portrayal he gave us. I mean, we still got a pretty decent movie out of it — decent enough for a mash-up/crossover — but I think it could have been over the top if we had Kane Hodder, over the top in a good way.

It is this reason that I think we deserve another sequel with Kane Hodder. That and because of that awful reboot, and the weird plot that totally messed up the "Jason Goes to Hell" sequel. I won't comment on Jason X because. . .well, that was probably as good of a movie you could possibly get with a futuristic Jason Voorhees film. I really liked the movie, don't get me wrong. But I think we just need another film to allow us to revert back to Camp Crystal Lake (Camp Blood), in the present time (or at the very least, a plot based in the 90's or early 00's.

I simple crave another slasher with Jason that gives us that unforgettable 80's or 90's tone in horror. Because, let's face it. Those were the times when horror was the best. I'm going to have my fingers crossed and hope that in the near future we could have another *real* Friday the 13th. If we could get another Halloween, then dammit, we should be able to have another Jason.
