There's a section for every movie on IMDb where goofs, mistakes, inconsistencies, and plot holes are listed. I stumbled on the ones written for Halloween and saw that many of them were not mistakes at all; the person responsible for writing the "goof" was just remembering it wrongly, or could be easily explained with a different perspective. So I decided to write a blog saga about some of the movies in the series and list why I thought the goofs mentioned were wrong. Some (very few, actually) were sort of accurate but I decided to poke a little fun at it anyway. Here's a link to the original goofs and they are written below in bold italics. My comments are written below each goof, next to the emdashes.
1. During the flashback scene at the beginning of the film when Jamie is being taken by the man in black away from the police station, she is forced into a mid 1990's model Ford conversion van. Since the scene took place in 1989, this model wouldn't have existed, as the Ford vans that were built during the 1980s had rectangular-shaped grilles instead of the trapezoidal-shaped one that was shown. (Producer's Cut).
— I think everyone knows this scene was filmed for the sake of the sixth film and as an afterthought when part 5 was done and released. No big deal.
2. Despite being depicted as an expert on The Cult of Thorn, Tommy mispronounces "Samhain," pronouncing it phonetically as SAM-hane. As a Gaelic word, its pronunciation is closer to "SAH-win" or "SOW-in."
— Pronouncing a word in an American accent, like most people would do when it comes to this word, does not negate his expertise of Samhain. One has nothing to do with the other. And also, the American pronunciation used in the film, and another in the franchise, had to be used so the audience would know what the hell Tommy (and Dr. Loomis in a previous film) was talking about.
3. When Mrs. Strode is cleaning up her porch she is wearing Nike Air shoes. When she goes into the house, into the basement we see a close-up of her shoes and they've changed completely; different brand and type. When she discovers Michael in her house she runs into her yard, once out of the house the Nike Air shoes reappear.
— Her shoes being slightly different in various scenes is not a continuity issue as it’s labeled on IMDb. It just means these scenes were done at different times. No one was paying enough attention to her shoes to give a damn.
4. There is blood running down Jamie's chin when she is being impaled on the farm equipment, but then it disappears and reappears.
— I don’t think so. In the barn, the only time blood dribbled down to her chin was when Michael impaled her. It didn’t disappear and then reappear.
5. When he is on the phone with Barry Simms, Tommy manages to hold the phone in his right hand and, at the same, time type with the same hand.
— Had to be because of either an editing flaw where he typed while filming the scene with the phone in his other hand or he typed before getting on the phone and it was edited to look like he did so while on the phone.
6. If the map in the bus station were to be believed, Haddonfield is located in Livingston County, Illinois. In the previous films, it was in Warren County.
— No one cares about the map. Everyone is trying to enjoy a movie, not travel.
7. When John Strode goes downstairs, the position of his hair changes.
— His hair rarely moved at all throughout the movie. Do you honestly think a tiny part or a few strands seemingly looking different really matters? And how is this an error?
8. In the Theatrical version, before Michael starts the doctor massacre, he hears the sound of Tommy and Kara fleeing into another room. He stops, and turns around to investigate the sound but doesn't find anything. As he turns to walk the other way, they show his reflection in mirrors on the wall, and if you look, you'll see a crew member in the mirror just before the mirror is out of frame.
— Hmm. . .I have to watch that scene again because I never noticed.
9. When Tommy is listening to Jamie talk to Barry Simms again he could hear the Bus Station attendant announcing a bus departure, but during the actual scene when it is happening there is no such announcement.
— For one, this is not a plot hole. Also, Tommy had to isolate that particular part of the recording in order to actually hear it so perhaps that’s why it was never heard during the actual scene.
10. (at around 6 mins) The text of the newspaper cuttings on Tommy's wall do not relate to the events of the original Halloween. While the headlines refer to Michael's killings, the body of the articles discuss, amongst other subjects, an international conference and political difficulties for a city mayor.
— This is not a “revealing error” because no one is going to take the time to pay attention to stupid newspaper clippings when they only care about the actual plot of the movie. You had to have been really bored to screenshot those clippings and blew them up in order to read them. Another reason this is not a “revealing error.”
11. After Michael has thrown Jamie on the forked bars, he holds his hands up to her face and suddenly rips her shirt. In the next scene, the shirt is still on her, and not ripped. (Producer's Cut).
— Your mistake was in wasting the time to write this as an error. Michael never did any of that in the producer’s cut because in that version the scene was filmed in an entirely different way. You must be confused or mixed up or something because none of that happened in the producer’s cut at all. In the theatrical version, however, he lifts his arms out as if he was about to embrace her after Jamie reached her arms out towards him. But he didn’t rip her shirt. He pushed her body in deeper into the corn picker that he impaled her on. That’s what you’re referring to.
